چکیده

In this paper, we study the mixed linear regression (MLR) problem, where the goal is to recover multiple underlying linear models from their unlabeled linear measurements. We propose a non-convex objective function which we show is locally strongly convex in the neighborhood of the ground truth. We use a tensor method for initialization so that the initial models are in the local strong convexity region. We then employ general convex optimization algorithms to minimize the objective function. To the best of our knowledge, our approach provides first exact recovery guarantees for the MLR problem with K 2 components. Moreover, our method has near-optimal computational complexity e O(Nd) as well as near-optimal sample complexity e O(d) for constant K. Furthermore, we show that our nonconvex formulation can be extended to solving the subspace clustering problem as well. In particular, when initialized within a small constant distance to the true subspaces, our method converges to the global optima (and recovers true subspaces) in time linear in the number of points. Furthermore, our empirical results indicate that even with random initialization, our approach converges to the global optima in linear time, providing speed-up of up to two orders of magnitude.

Application of mixed-effects models for exposure assessment.

The benefits of using linear mixed-effects models for occupational exposure assessment were studied by re-analysing three data sets from two published surveys with repeated exposure measurements. The relative contributions of particular characteristics affecting exposure levels were assessed as in a multiple regression model, while controlling for the correlation between repeated measurements. ...

Derivation of regression models for pan evaporation estimation

Evaporation is an essential component of hydrological cycle. Several meteorologicalfactors play role in the amount of pan evaporation. These factors are often related to eachother. In this study, a multiple linear regression (MLR) in conjunction with PrincipalComponent Analysis (PCA) was used for modeling of pan evaporation. After thestandardization of the variables, independent components were...

Modeling of temperature in friction stir welding of duplex stainless steel using multivariate lagrangian methods, linear extrapolation and multiple linear regression

In this study, the temperature in friction stir welding of duplex stainless steel has been investigated. At first, temperature estimation was modeled and estimated at different distances from the center of the stir zone by the multivariate Lagrangian function. Then, the linear extrapolation method and multiple linear regression method were used to estimate the temperature outside the range and ...

Application of Graph Theory: Investigation of Relationship Between Boiling Temperatures of Olefins and Topological Indices

Abstract: In this study an appropriate computational approach was presented for estimating the boiling temperatures of 41 different types of olefins and their derivatives. Based on the guidelines of this approach, several structural indices related to the organic components were applied using graph theory. Meanwhile, in addition to evaluating the relation between the boiling temperatures of ole...
